B-Side Collective’s mission is to make music more accessible to students at Colorado College and Colorado Springs. Founded in 2015, the collective is specifically for underrepresented musicians including — but not limited to — women, queer identified, non-binary, trans, low income, and artists of color. However, our events and workshops are for everyone.
The B-Side Collective’s main goal is to provide access to music as well as a musical and artistic community to every single student on campus. Currently, if a student isn’t a music major or minor, and if they cannot afford lessons or instruments provided by the school it is very difficult to find space and instruments with which to make music and to be creative. Providing not only members of the Collective, but anyone in the CC community, with instruments and equipment for creative expression would open up musical and creative opportunities for students or who cannot afford or access spaces, lessons, or instruments otherwise. Additionally, the Collective aims to give students who have creative inclinations but lack experience access to equipment by which to learn. By widening access to music, equipment, and human capital, the B-Side Collective will actively promote and embody inclusivity in the music scene, as well as the larger environment at Colorado College.
Our goals include fostering community, offering alternative educational workshops and programs, creating a space where anyone can experience and enjoy music, and raising awareness on issues affecting underrepresented groups in the music industry.
Recently, Colorado College renovated a former dentist's office to provide B-Side Collective with a space to create this community, which we are calling The Cavity. While the building itself brings us closer to our mission, we need funding to supply the space with instruments and equipment for the students and greater community to support our mission of creating a musical community that is accessible to everyone.
