CCEMS was founded as a student response to the closure of the Health Center’s 24-hour care. In 2013, several student EMT’s founded the CCEMS squad. We realized that we could serve the community that we loved while developing real-world medical experience. CCEMS has now grown to over a dozen members and is how any student who wishes to enter the world of healthcare can take their first steps towards their goals while ensuring the safety of their friends and classmates.

CCEMS is comprised of state-certified Emergency Medical Technicians, many of whom received their EMT education here at Colorado College. We work to serve the general student body when the health center closes at night as well as to provide medical coverage during certain sports events. We treat our fellow students and peers with rigorous care as our members participate in monthly trainings with EMS education officers from Penrose St. Francis Hospital and operate under the medical direction of physicians at the Penrose Hospital emergency department. We also strive to serve our local community to the best of our ability as we maintain a close partnership with our local CSFD Station 2 and volunteer our services at events such as the Colorado Springs Marathon or the Colorado Springs Day of Service.

Why you should contribute
All of us love what we do and we are proud to provide quality medical attention for free to our campus. However, our lack of long-term infrastructure severely hampers our ability to serve the community. The main flaw in our current system is the lack of a vehicle: currently we rely on Campus Safety for transportation, which adds an unnecessary delay to medical care and places a logistical burden on Campus Safety. We hope to purchase a used SUV for use as a quick-response vehicle, to transport our EMTs and equipment to incidents around campus and any nearby areas. Your contribution would greatly enhance the safety and well-being of the students at Colorado College and help the next generation of healthcare professionals get their start.
