Make your gift to the CC Liberal Arts in Carceral Facilities Initiative.

Hi there, my name’s Carol. I’m a history professor at CC, one of the co-founders of the Liberal Arts in Correctional Facilities (LACF) Project, and advisor to the Prison Project.

Today, I’m reaching out to you to ask that you join me in supporting the LACF Project. LACF is an initiative that we developed here at CC, offering undergraduate credit courses in regional Colorado prisons. Programs like LACF in other states have proven to dramatically reduce repeat offenses, benefitting the safety and productivity of surrounding communities, and, most importantly, transforming the lives of people experiencing incarceration during and after incarceration.

That’s why your gift to the LACF initiative is so important. We teach three core liberal arts courses in math, writing, and humanities. These courses ultimately help people experiencing incarceration progress towards a liberal arts degree, improve their employment prospects, help raise their self-esteem, and boost the sense of possibility in their world.

From book expenses to registration fees, to supply costs, and more, the funds raised would help cover the cost of teaching one of our three yearly course offerings to people the age of our CC students now experiencing incarceration. Our LACF students are bright and eager to learn, and with your help, we can continue to offer our courses and to give back to the community in a satisfying, valuable, and necessary way. The Colorado College faculty who teach for this program make a valuable community contribution and model for our CC students how they too may give back from their education to those less privileged.

Students in state prisons have so little, which is why this work is so important to me and all our student and faculty volunteers. By partnering with us on our LACF work, you’d be able to help provide them with books toward their beginning of liberal arts studies: works like Plato’s dialogues and Beowulf, books they’ll be able to keep with them and cherish forever.

So please, I hope you’ll join me today in supporting this most important cause. Because together, you and I can create real change, affect human life, and gain greater appreciation and understanding of each other.

The work we do is work that we owe the landscape of southern Colorado. Thank you for your support!
