For a school of just over 2,000 students, Colorado College has one of the strongest and most active climbing communities in the U.S. Outside magazine has called CC “a veritable feeder school for professional climbing.” Our climbing club started in the 1940s and after decades of notable first ascents and cultivation of the world’s best climbers, we have only recently stepped into the collegiate competition scene.
Last season was a huge success! We had over 25 athletes on our team roster, almost all of whom competed in local competitions around the state of Colorado. Fourteen of our team members attended the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Regionals in Fort Collins in March. We had five, top-10 finishers, three climbers who made it to the finals round, and one regional champion! Seven of our athletes qualified for the Collegiate National Championships in Houston, TX. Five CC students were able to attend the National Championships, in which students from all around the country competed for coveted spots on the U.S National Team and invitations to the University World Championships in Slovakia. Ultimately, we had one athlete who made finals and secured an 11th place National ranking to conclude the collegiate season.

This year is our first year as an official Colorado College Club sport! More than 50 students have committed to train together and compete across the state and country. Yes, our team has DOUBLED in size this year!
More than 15 schools in Colorado participate in USA Climbing's Collegiate Climbing Series, and there are several local competitions throughout Colorado leading up to the Regional Championships in Denver in March. At regionals, students will compete to qualify for the National Championships in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Students can choose to compete in bouldering, speed, and sport climbing, with each discipline available at most competitions.
Your donations will be a huge help to members of the climbing team this season. One of the ways that your donations can help is by covering the increase in USA Climbing membership fees and competition registration fees that we are facing this year. Last year, USAC membership fees were $30, but this year they have nearly doubled to $55. Last season regionals and nationals registration fees were $50 and $100, respectively. This season, fees have increased to $65 and $150, respectively. Since it was unfair to reflect these price changes in our team dues, we are relying on your donations to help us! The money also will help us in other ways, from supplying chalk for team practices to covering plane ticket costs to get to nationals.

The students on the CC climbing team are a dedicated bunch with some who have competed in youth competitions for years and some who have only been climbing for a few months. We just recently kicked off official team practices in preparation for our upcoming competitions. Help our second year on the circuit be a success! We are relying on your support to get to competitions, hold practices, and represent CC on a national stage. Every little bit helps, and your contribution is appreciated greatly!
