Race, Ethnicity, and Migration Studies (REMS)

Race, Ethnicity, and Migration Studies (REMS) is an interdisciplinary program that engages students in the examination of ethnicity and race and their systematic relationship with class, gender, and sexuality as they appear in all facets of American culture and society. REMS offers students a safe space to engage critically with systems of oppression as they relate to their own identities and communities. REMS not only provides space for marginalized students to affirm themselves in the face of representations and realities that degrade them, but also creates space for all students to practice ways of being and thinking that resist the violence of racism, sexism, homophobia, and other systems of power.

I hope many of you will join me in supporting these transformative opportunities for current and future students by making a gift today.

In light of the recent anti-Black, transantagonistic email that tried to spread hatred and violence, I would like to invite you to join me in supporting REMS so that it can offer students more opportunities to engage critically with the intersections of their identities, and support a Colorado College in which everyone matters, and everyone feels that they belong. Our contributions will help fund off-campus field trips and summer independent research for REMS students. By giving students the space to deeply engage with these transformative processes, REMS gives students the tools to engage beyond college to create a more inclusive world.

For me, as a brown transgender guy, REMS has not only inspired me to reclaim my self-worth on a campus that often burdens me with stereotypes that deny me my humanity; it also empowers me to incorporate a critical lens into my passion of youth education, enabling me to hopefully one day become the incredible mentor to youth that my REMS and FGS professors have been for me.

I hope many of you will join me in supporting these transformative opportunities for current and future students by making a gift today.
